HITIQ and its new partnership with BUPA dental have been covered on 9News. The new partnership will allow junior and amateur players to access HITIQ technology to help improve surveillance of impacts.

9News is Australia’s most trusted source of news and current affairs. During the two minute segment, 9News medical reporter Emily Rice features interviews with Young Australian Rules Football player Oliver Cullen, his father Christian, Bupa’s Cathryn Madden and HITIQ’s own Damien Hawes.

HITIQ is already working with elite athletes around the country. The new partnership means junior and amateur players now have access to the same technology as the professionals, something that Christian Cullen is particularly happy about. “My son and I are big AFL fans so to know that we are using the same technology as our heroes, it’s fantastic”

Bupa Dental’s Cathryn Madden explains how easy it is to have a smart HITIQ mouthguard custom fit by a dentist. “It’s exactly the same process that we would carry out for a regular sports mouthguard”. Once the players have been measured by a dentist, the mouthguard is then manufactured in a lab to embed its unique sensor technology.

The technology works by detecting and classifying impacts during matches or training. If an impact is detected, messages are sent to an app on either the players or their parent's phone. The message advises them on what to do with examples of monitoring symptoms or seeking medical attention highlighted during the broadcast.
